O. J. Simpson: How many years?
In just a few hours, O. J. Simpson will be sentenced to a lengthy period in the Nevada penal system. Simpson will not speak at the sentencing, because he is appealing the conviction. After all, he can't very well apologize or ask for leniency in sentencing for a crime he is not prepared to accept responsibility for committing. Instead, Simpson's attorney is planning to make the rather bizarre request that Simpson's victims be allowed to testify and offer their views on sentencing. Of course, the problem with that, not to be too legalistic, is that the charges are for crimes against the state, so sentencing in this country does not depend on the opinions of victims.
In following this case, it seemed obvious that most everyone involved was a moth drawn to the remaining light cast by the dying embers of Simpson's star: sycophants of the worst sort. But according to one local defense lawyer I spoke with Thursday, no victim testimony of any sort will make a difference to Judge Jackie Glass. In Nevada, what is going to matter most is that a crime involving a gun was committed in a casino. This lawyer pointed out: You don't even have to be famous to be in a world of trouble for that mix.
There certainly has been plenty of discussion over whether Simpson's acquittal for murder 13 years ago influenced this prosecution and conviction in Las Vegas. But less discussed and perhaps more relevant is the impression many have locally that we do indeed have a two-tier system of justice -- but based on geography, not celebrity. The perception is that crimes that take place inside the tourist corridor are pursued more aggressively than elsewhere in the Las Vegas Valley. I know when my car was vandalized at my old apartment, I could not get an officer to even show up. Whereas when I had a similar car issue in a casino lot, the resort security easily summoned police to assist me.
Anyway, to get back to Simpson, his defense lawyers are asking Judge Glass that the former football player be given the minimum six-year sentence, whereas the Division of Parole and Probation has recommended a sentence of at least 18 years. The law even allows Glass to give Simpson a life sentence.
The Review-Journal interviews a local lawyer who suggests that Glass is likely to sentence Simpson to somewhere in the range of 11 years. But based on the lawyer I spoke to, who has appeared often before Glass in the past, I will not be surprised if she gives Simpson a very, very long sentence.
Then O.J. Simpson, for whatever length of time, will be led away to begin this perhaps final chapter of his life, once again in a uniform, albeit of jailhouse issue.

LOL to the comment: how WILL oj continue his search for the real killers.. priceless!
I, like every other American that KNOW he killed Ron and Nicole, are hoping that Bubba is gonna git him and show him what it feels like to be a 'real' woman ;-)
Just like Jeffrey Dahmer : what comes around goes around.

The average minimum sentence for threatening someone with a gun inside a Nevada casino is 10 years. Second degree murder in Indiana will get you 80 years. Individual States are not bound by federal sentencing guidelines, nor should they be. Criminals would do well to avoid these areas of the country.

Yah just have to wonder where a moron like Mark London comes from. Heh Mark baby, other people would not get 2-3 years. The minimum sentance is 6 years. Get it, minimum, as in, not less than. His crew carried a gun into a casino and committed an armed robbery. And you feel sorry for him because he is notorious? Geeze, you probably cry for Herod too.
Speaking of morons, what was OJ thinking? And who are these guys selling OJ crap like anybody cares.

In the 1940's a mob accused a black man of raping, or was it looking, at a white woman; they dragged him behind a car, slashing and ripping his body apart. At one point the mob stalled and a middle aged white woman ran heaving and sweating from her home wielding a knife, which she used to hack away one of his fingers. This bloodlust from the middle aged harpy threw the frightened an nasty crowed of cowards into a bloodlust frenzy of hacking away the man's body parts for more souvineers; this judge, a disgrace to the judicial system, announced that she wasn't being vindictive about what happened years ago in his murder trial; anyone who believes that believes there has always been justice in this hypocritical nation. She should be disbarred, but because she corrupted the justice system to appease more of the racist kind, she won't be.
when you feel it is alright to deny one person his rights, others are not far behind. watch yourselves, because you have said it is alright. believe it or not, I happen to detest oj simpson for being a buffoon! but a buffoon doesn't deserve injustice from a racist judge!

There's a great blog written by a journalist named Harmon Leon who costarred with OJ Simpson on a hidden camera prank show. It was absolutely unbelievable. There's even video of it.

THE ONLY THING THAT IRKS ME ABOUT THE WHOLE OJ SIMPSON THING IS THAT, ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE HE DEFINITELY DID IT, AS A RELIGIOUS INDIVIDUAL, I AM NOT CONVINCED THAT WHAT HE DID WAS NOT WARRANTED. IF NICOLE AND RONALD CHEATED WHILE NICOLE WAS STILL MARRIED TO OJ, THE BIBLE SAYS THE ADULTERERS SHALL BE KILLED. IF THATS THE CASE, WHAT OJ DID WASNT EVEN A CRIME.
