Criss Angel ignores chance to retract threat

Reporter Norm Clarke is becoming the Salman Rushdie of Las Vegas. On Friday Criss Angel, whose freakishly dedicated fans are called The Loyal, allegedly threatened Review-Journal writer Norm Clarke.
Angel was apparently upset by Clarke's coverage of the Miss USA beauty
pageant at Planet Hollywood in which Angel's girlfriend did not even make the
finals.
None of this had anything to do with Clarke beyond a column reporting Angel's attempt to talk up his girlfriend to one of the judges. But that judge had already voted.
None of this had anything to do with Clarke beyond a column reporting Angel's attempt to talk up his girlfriend to one of the judges. But that judge had already voted.
Angel, though, was so furious that, according to Clarke, after the contest, Angel charged him with a posse and threatened that the reporter would need another eye patch should he dare write about Angel again. (Clarke had one of his eyes surgically removed and wears a patch over the missing organ.)
It is unheard of for a headliner not named Sinatra to physically threaten
anyone in Vegas. Vegas likes its headliners user-friendly. Even the snarky Penn
& Teller finish each show standing outside their theater at the Rio talking
to any fan who approaches them and posing for pictures.
But Cirque, which is currently in rehearsals for a $100-million show
starring Angel at Luxor, amazingly has taken a neutral approach to Angel's
outrageous behavior. A Cirque spokesperson told me that Cirque sees the issue as one between Angel
and Clarke.
So, now Clarke has to be worried about Angel, Angel's circle (two brothers and a bodyguard, according to Clarke, were with Angel during the encounter) and, most of all, Angel's unpredictable fans, "The Loyal," who live to please Angel. Scary.

I tried to get Angel to at least clarify his threat to Clarke. I
asked Angel's representatives repeatedly for a comment or interview with
Angel. Yesterday, I wrote again worried because now Clarke has violated the
illusionist's injunction and written about Angel again. Could Angel at least
confirm that he intends no violence to Norm Clarke? In addition to Angel's
representative, I also sent the same question to Cirque. Total silence.
It appears no one at this time will guarantee that Criss Angel has no
intention of following through on his alleged threat to harm Clarke's one
remaining eye. This is disgraceful. I personally think that both Angel and
Cirque should apologize to Clarke. For better and worse, Angel is now a
representative of Cirque in public. I think I understand that words spoken in the
heat of the moment are one thing (even if the moment is as trivial as a beauty pagent). But going days without retracting a threat
of violence is a scary precedent and should not be acceptable to anyone in Las
Vegas.

People need to stop blaming Criss for the fact his girlfriend didn't make it in the finals.
It was said that the women had already judged in the prelimeraries before he made his comment, about wanting his girl to get "high marks" So a decision was made already and it had nothing to do with Criss making a playful comment to the judges. The women felt uncomfortable because the decision was made and she knew his girlfriend was not going to be a finalist. I doubt Criss had that much influence in this contest, if he did, his girl would have been at least a finalist, if not the winner.
Pagents suck anyways. Anytime I've watched them, It's usually never the girl you think should win..Be it her body, her anwer to a question or her face. Half of the girls are already eliminated before the show even starts. None of the girls are that hot anyways. And the hottest one, usually doesn't win.

That whole Jim Callahan/Criss Angel thing is fake. There's no fighting between them. It's all for publicity. That whole show was scripted and fake. I bet Criss and this guy are friends behind the scenes.
Posted by: Laura | April 16, 2008 at 05:19 PM
Nope, no way she would even be considered for a prize.
Criss screwed her over by being,... well Criss.
He tampered with the contest ran his yap to a judge and if anyone else heard and she did place the entire event would have been screwed.
(In fact I hear that he did the same on the NBC show and that it has screwed his chances of ever being on network TV)
So she can thank her dim wit magic boy for ruining all the work she has done over the years to get were she is.
Yep he ruined all of her work with his mouth.
And now all she has is some poser for a hump buddy.

Regardless of who likes or dislikes Jim Callahan, is immaterial at this point. Mr. Callahan should not have been treated with such violent action and sarcasm during the NBC show. I remember Angel saying to him: "bullSh*T, blah, blah, blah," thus drowning out Mr. Callahan who called him a idealogical bigot, which he is.
Then Angel took a step forward towards Callahan. Callahan should have been treated with respect. The same respect he got from Uri Geller, whether Angel liked his "act" or not.
And Mr. Callahan is very perceptive. He knows someone is going to crash and burn. And I, for one, am waiting along with him.
As for the Loyals, I can understand the "Mansonite" statement. Being old enough to remember that horrific night of murders, which inspired the book, Helter Skelter, Manson had people believing he was so wonderful, he was Jesus Christ. I do believe these young Loyals are followers and can understand the comparison of following around a middle aged Goth boy who dresses like he was 15. I have a cousin who dresses like him. LOL~
Grow up, Crissy baby. You used to be a cutie.

i agree with keera...
The entitlement!!! what i'm curious to know is what the other 49 girls WHO WEREN'T CHOSEN EITHER think about veronica not getting picked? they must be deeply troubled by this! from what i understand the judges had already turned in their votes when Criss supposedly approached Mecca and made that egotistical comment, so the idea that she didn't make it through because of what a columnist reported is so lame. The girl never had the vote anyway!! Miss "Peanut Butter and Jelly" (as she so aptly described herself in sandwich form) obviously ain't all that if she can't get there on her own merit. Seems to me there were expectations from the two about this pageant and i guess if i were so conceited as to think that way, well..i'd threaten a one eyed man's other good eye too. who needs ethics when you have too much money and priviledge and a ego to match?
Who acts so tastelessly and expects to maintain public respect?
it doesn't take much to put together that this was a pathetic attempt to gain an advantage over the competition for his girlfriend because he has a little fame and fortune to throw around. Celebrities kill me how they die to be in the spotlight but when it doesn't shine to their liking, they throw a fit! Like he rules Las Vegas...please! Could it be the public is finally catching on to dude's bulls--t?

what i want to know is what the other 49 women who weren't chosen think about veronica not getting picked? they must be so troubled...man the entitlement!! It's my understanding that the judges had already made their picks when criss pulled that little stunt with mecca. The girl never got the vote in the first place so why are people acting like it was because of what a columnist wrote? Criss didn't know it but his efforts were in vain and also very inappropriate. Seems to me Criss and his gf had certain.expectations about this pageant. i guess if I was so conceited as to think that my gf was going to win because of me and who i thought i was and also her status as Miss Nevada then well..i'd probably threaten a one-eyed man's other good eye too. Who needs ethics when you have too much money and priviledge and an ego to match?
Mr Clarke deserves an apology. Criss needs to accept that his his little "peanut butter and jelly" girlfriend isn't all that.
Stupid beauty pageants...who the hell cares!! must have been hard up this year!

The NBC thing wasn't fake. Look here!
http://www.popscribe.com/2007/11/01/criss-angel-defended-our-souls-on-halloween/
Did Criss save our souls?
It was real and in a funny way showed exactly how Criss Angel works. He makes threats and then hopes someone else will do the dirty work. His fan base is an illusion also, created by Spark Art. The actual numbers are a fraction of what is suggested. Notice how the avatars are of young beautiful women? ... But when they show up at a meeting it is quite different.
Everyone in the Biz knows it's a fake!

Oh my gods, is Callahan seriously back? Dude, I'd hoped you'd fallen off the face of the planet. I was just starting to rebuild a respectable reputation as a clairaudient. Oh well. Hey, whatever happened to that big thing that was supposed to happen in January to your so called "middle aged goth boy?" Guess Raymond had the wrong century?
Clarke's a gossip slinging sleaze artist, Angel's got a temper, and good ole Jimmy's trying to collect the last 2.5 seconds of his 15 minutes. Who the frak cares?
Seriously, kids, move on.
Posted by: Talyn | April 16, 2008 at 06:37 PM
Well you can slag Callahan but when push comes to shove he is holding up and Criss Angel is not.
Those are facts.
Callahan does what he says he can do and many think he scares Criss.
Houdini might have been able to deal with Callahan but Angle is no Houdini even though he wishes he were.

Agree with Lola and Violet!
When a celebrity wants to be in the spotlight, like Criss, they will use their status to get it. But when the tables are turned and someone insults their own integrity, watch out!!! Clarke is a gossip columnist. Take it with a grain of salt, Criss. I repeat, you are not god! You are a fabulous entertainer, but that's where the whole thing stops. And really, to promote your girlfriend is so lame as you seem to have a new girls everytime we turn around. So do you really think the rest of the public is going to fall in love with her as well? She holds a title of "Miss Nevada" not the girl who discovered the cure for cancer. Celebrities play it all up as do the media. But the tougher the skin the better reputation and effect you will have on the public. In my opinion your losing a bit of yourself everytime you play it up to the media that you are better than the entire city of Las Vegas. Really you are just a guy behind an empire, and at the end of the day your no better than the rest of us.

Regarding above comment by Dave, I am not in any way stating that the Loyal are "unbalanced". Criss has a good number of fans that watch the show that are not necessarily Loyals. Being a Loyal does not make you unbalanced. Also, to address some other comments, not all Loyals are "unstable kids". I am proud to be a Loyal, and will always defend Criss. I am roughly the same age as Criss, and a professional person (not at all unstable). I am just saying that if Mr. Clarke gets hit by a bus someday it may be his own fault.

Sooo,Mecca was partying with Criss after the pageant?Apparantly she was'nt upset with him, obviously somebody blew things out of proportion to make Criss look like a jerk.If people like Norm are going to try to make a buck by spreading slander, then they should expect to be confronted with the cruel fact that they are lowlifes. It happens, and getting yelled at is nothing compared to reputations that are destroyed by people like Norm.I'd say he got off easy.Criss,Cique, apologise?Norm owes countless stars apology's and just on principal alone,I say,HELL NO!
JIM CALLAHAN,your just plain crazy the way you stalk these sites waiting for your chance to say something "high schoolish"about Criss.I'm guessing you need too figure out another way to become famous because this stuff just makes you look like a complete idiot!

that`s horrible ... all these bad press about criss ... makes me sad.
it sounds like everyone is trying to screw his carrier up ... it looks like the people are happy when criss is failing with his las vegas show and his mindfreak-show ... that´s stupid ... he worked for these things very hard ... so don`t be jealous ...
i have the feeling that the people are only satisfied when criss is dead so they have not to deal with him anymore ... i would really like to know how criss is feeling in these moments ... i would be very upset ... depressed ... sad ... don`t know ...
so be careful what you are doing/saying ... you are causing maybe more damage to criss than you wanted ... i don`t wanna be the person who drift him into suicide ... i don`t wanna be responsible for a persons death. And destroying everything criss has ... this is maybe where he will end: as a dead person ... and that`s absolutely horrible ...

This taken from RJ
Angel publicist Steve Flynn responded Friday: "Criss has been friends with Sandy and Mike Mecca for years and was absolutely joking around with her when he said that. The fact that it happened two days after Mrs. Mecca had completed her judging, I fail to see the relevance."
Asked whether Angel had contact with any other Miss USA judges or executives, Flynn said, "That's ridiculous."

In the heat of the moment words are expressed but still the fact that clarke published trash gossip looking to defame and tarnish criss's career he deserved what he got.... when someone has publish wrong or mistaken words in a paper you would be pi@#ed. If you have built a career from scratch and someone aims at tarnishing it you would too get angry. Clarke should of done some research or checked if criss had swayd the voting in any way before posting because the fact is anything in a paper seems official and the wider community usually take to it as true. Put yourself in criss's position... id prob have done the same thing, since criss did not sway any votes, everyone knows he has a larger then life personality and loves to joke.
Facts are that he was talkin to the judges about his girl 2 days AFTER the judges made their decision. Shows how ridiculous clarke's post was, trying to Defame.
And for Jim calagahanaah (dont really care how its spelt) you need a life. Criss angel isn't going to fall he has a New Season of Mindfreaks coming soon and his Criss Angel Believe. On Phenomenon your acts were out of line and you made a complete! fool of yourself. Words need not be said just google Phenomenon and Jim clahsdajhdjhds name (again i couldn't be bothered with his name), you will see how it plays out. Btw your routine lookd ridiculous. Rofl. Get a life mate. Stop providing false hope. Criss was right to bust you and hey he carried out that promise? Why not prove yourself? Criss still has one envelope which is to be revealed in Season 4.
I hope that criss has found the right girl =D they look good together and to those that are talking about her being some kind of adult star... wow... you guy/girls need a life, imagine if someone said that about your daughter? yeah feels good doesnt it?
Criss Angel is a down to earth guy!
Tic toc lol i aint gonna do that rubbish
Well thats ma input =D GL to Criss Angel (although he deosnt need it xD)

I'm an amatuer magician, so I am probably more aware of Criss Angel than the average person, but I'm no Loyal and I'm not even a big fan... I don't keep track of every move C.A. makes, nor do I care... I have a life.
Criss seems to be a nice guy who is trying to maintain a "bad boy" image. Anyone who knows anything about the history of magic knows that it takes an ego and an attitude to rise to the top. Houdini was hated by many people, like spiritualists and clairvoyents, because he exposed their phony methods and lies. He was also loved by many many times more people - hence his popularity as one of the greatest magicians (if not THE greatest magician) in history. It's no secret that Criss idolizes Harry Houdini and models much of his career after the exploits and achievements of Houdini. But he does it in his own way. Whenever anybody achieves great popularity, there are always those who will try to drag them down by exagerating anything the celebrity does that can even remotely be construed as negative. I say that they are jealous because someone else's success is merely a conviction of their own lack of success.
Lies for entertainment purposes is one thing (actors and comdedians do it all the time, so do magicians) but for people like Jim Callahan (who is a poor hack mentalist AT BEST) who try to rip people off by claiming he can channel dead people, the "lie" steps over the line. Jim is just desparately trying to stir up some controversy to keep his lame career (if you can call it that) alive, while others who appear on that show, like Guy Bavli, Angela Funovits and the winner Mike Super have gone on with style and class and have continued to build their careers based on the publicity they gained by their appearance on Phenomenon. Jim's appearance on Phenomenon just revealed what a non-talent he really is, and when "called" on it by Criss, he struck out like a cornered wounded animal. He is still desparately trying to stir up some controversy by stalking articles about Criss Angel to which he can post negative comments (just search his name on youtube...). This guy needs to move on and build a career based on his own (non-existant) talent and stop trying to drag down someone else in order to make himself look and feel better. That's enough said about Jim C.
As for you haters cutting down Miss Nevada, you don't know her OR her personality. She obviously had to beat out a bunch of other contestants just to win the state title, and the fact that she didn't make it to the finals means nothing. There were 48 other contestants who didn't win either. I'm sure any of you other basement dwellers who are criticizing her would give your left arm to have a woman of her calibre as your girlfriend. Losers....
Now, for the "journalist" who Criss supposedly threatened, we have to remember that his career is based on trying to create sensationalistic stories to justify his job. Really, people, with all of this controversy, you would think that this was two world leaders threatening each other with nuclear annihilation. Knowing Criss's personality, the remark he made to the judge sounds more like a joke by Criss than any attempt to influence the voting. His "threat" against the journalist just sounds like something someone would say when he was pissed-off. I think he is doing the right thing by ignoring the whole situation. This reporter is just trying to stir up even more negative controversy like some little whiny bitch. Everybody is trying to feed off of Criss' success and ride his coattails to their own little piece of fame and fortune.
Like I said, I am no huge Criss Angel fan, but I do know that he has worked long and hard to earn his own success, and I predict that his show at the Luxor will be as big of a success as his top-rated show on A&E. He is an entertainer, a good one, or he wouldn't be where he is now. As for him being a mid-aged goth kid - has anybody seen Keith Richards, Ozzie Osbourne or Gene Simmons lately? What's the difference between how they look and how Criss looks?
... get real people, it's all a part of their image... anybody who thinks it's any more than that is a naive idiot...

I think this David guy might be Criss Angel himself, his girlfriend or his pr management.
Posted by: Uahhha | April 22, 2008 at 01:07 AM
I think you're right, Uahhha! Someone is writing for Criss as David!!
Whatever...if Criss wants to walk the walk he better prepared to have his feathers ruffled a bit. I am a huge fan of his, but honestly, I'm a fan of his magic. His attitude and ego lately are just getting out of control. Really. The show he is doing is not totally about him, Cirque is his partner. That makes it great right there. As far as Callahan goes, he wanted to defend the public by defacing a fraud, however, why make a spectacle out of yourself? And why tell Alicia Jacobs, "He'd be in a hospital right now"?? What? What gives him the right to say that? Criss is coming across as a god. He also told Alicia Jacobs when discussing David Copperfield and what he felt about him, Criss responded by saying, "It's great to king!" Another form of arrogance. If Criss would just pipe down and do his magic like in Season One and part of Season Two in Mindfreak (whereafter he started turning egotisical) then maybe the public would appreciate some of his comments better. He brings a lot of this on himself, gossip or no gossip. This isn't about the press slamming him, it's about building himself up with such an attitude that eveyrone wants to bring him down no matter what. TThe media knows exactly how it works, but in turn, so does Criss. Without the media he would be nothing, so he needs to take it with a grain of salt.

To David Q,
"As for him being a mid-aged goth kid - has anybody seen Keith Richards, Ozzie Osbourne or Gene Simmons lately? What's the difference between how they look and how Criss looks"
The difference is, those people are actually musicians Criss s a magician. If Criss was also a rock star and was not tying to pose as one , than maybe he wouldn't be made fun of on that aspect.
About Miss Nevada..etc.: ."I'm sure any of you other basement dwellers who are criticizing her would give your left arm to have a woman of her calibre as your girlfriend. Losers...."
I'm not sure what is required to win a pagent these days, all i know is when I look at many of these women in MIss AMerica or Miss USA pagents( and that includes his girlfriend), I think to myself,- it must not take much.
I love the way the guys rips on anyone who comments against Criss and calls us losers but says he has a life and isn't Criss's biggest fan , yet goes on writing one of the longest posts ever defending Criss. Hypocrite. Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house You're the Loser.
Posted by: Yeah right,, | April 23, 2008 at 09:37 AM
I think everyone is taking the "putting Callahan in the hospital" comment out of context. I believe what Criss was saying is that if Callahan had not been held back Criss would have naturally defended himself. Given his martial arts training, Callahan would most probably have been in the hospital. And he would have deserved it, too.
