Monte Carlo headliner Lance Burton dark Wednesday

January 29, 2008 |  2:52 pm
Lance Burton got good press today for greeting guests in the lobby of the Monte Carlo as they returned to gather their belongings from their evacuated rooms.

But his show tomorrow (Wednesday) has now been canceled. The press release announcing the cancellation of Burton's Wednesday show means the Monte Carlo casino is still unlikely to be open by tomorrow night. See how I figured that out? Monte Carlo's parent company MGM-Mirage has guessed I am not the only one that clever.

MGM-Mirage has been keeping tight control on all information about anything relating to the Monte Carlo fire last week. So, moments after sending out the press release announcing the show cancellation for Wednesday, Lance Burton's publicist immediately canceled the press release. How do you cancel a press release? You do so by sending out another press release directing all press to ignore the first press release and instead go to an MGM-Mirage vice president with all questions.

None of which changes the fact that Lance Burton's Wednesday show has been canceled. But openness is not in the nature of resorts. And, I guess, even the Monte Carlo's headliner magician can't be trusted to say when he will reappear.
