Revolution is jazz
11:11 AM PT, Nov 6 2007
Revolution Lounge at Mirage is trying something interesting tonight: live
jazz. One great thing about Vegas is that fabulous musicians can get great jobs if they are willing to play lousy music.
For example, it is probably a fair assumption that musicians skilled enough
to develop the chops to be hired for Celine Dion's show probably have better
taste than to enjoy playing Celine Dion music.
Anyway, tonight a group made up of musicians from Dion's show, Cirque shows
and Blue Man Group will be performing jazz as Collectif. Doors open at 10 and
the show is free. This passes for an interesting and innovative idea in a Vegas
lounge. Not that Revolution Lounge is abandoning the more traditional fare.
After two sets by Collectif, the connoisseurs and cognoscenti can clear out
before MoJo Risin' offers a Doors tribute show.

Oh you're bashing Celine Dion! How clever!
GIve me break; she is a talented and classy singer who has earned her career.
Her music appeals to a lot of different folks. Your back-handed compliment to the musicians who work for her is pretty lame.

Yes, I admit, I think Celine Dion makes ear torture music. Nonetheless, my point is that Las Vegas employs some extraordinary musicians, and when they get together to jam, it is usually more exciting than the sounds they get to make at their day jobs for Wayne Newton or Mamma Mia or whatever. Being able to make this more eclectic music tends to be why they work those jobs. In this case it also gives tourists a chance to see something a little different for no cover charge. Thanks for reading. Yrs., Richard

Celine Dion has a fan?

Why don't you actually talk to some of the musicians playing in Celine Dion's show, instead of making totally baseless assumptions and describing them as "fair"?
Most of them have been playing with her for years (some closing in on two decades), so I'd actually suggest that it's a terrible assumption that they don't enjoy playing her music.
It's fine and dandy that you don't like her music, but assuming that anyone with musical skill shares your taste simply makes you look arrogant. Being wrong in that assumption makes you look like a fool.
And, as Joe points out, insulting the lady certainly doesn't make you look clever or original.
