Words with Jerry Lewis expensive

August 20, 2007 |  8:55 am
Local journalist Steve Friess attempted to arrange an interview with Jerry Lewis for Newsweek.  Normally, such requests are routine. But, Friess writes on his blog, he was shocked when a representative for Lewis replied to his  request that the comedian required $20,000 in exchange for "up to a one-hour interview." Friess, who, in addition to Newsweek, writes regularly for most major newspapers around the country, including USA Today and the New York Times, notes:

"There isn't a single one that would pay for any celebrity interview, let alone one with a faded star who, while surely a fascinating conversation, wouldn't exactly move the needle on circulation or viewership in any meaningful way. And, $20,000 is just off-the-wall even if it was one of the tabloids that do pay for certain interviews."

Of course, it is possible that while out of the limelight, Lewis worked as one of Britney's nannies.

UPDATE: Norm reports today  that Jerry Lewis has fired the publicist who demanded $20,000 for an interview for Newsweek with local journalist Steve Friess.  Lewis has agreed to an interview with Friess this week for no fee.

In all the years he's been around I don't recall reading or hearing ANYTHING warm and fuzzy about Lewis. He's a surly turd and always has been. Long ago I figured out why Dino took a hike. It's amazing he stuck with 'Martin @ Lewis' for as long as he did. I recall vaguely seeing their last 'Martin @ Lewis' movie that climaxed with a tuneful duet about them staying together. Then it was like the next day the headlines announced the duo was dead. It wasn't long before Dean was hosting 'Club Oasis' on TV, singing his hits, and smoking alot of Oasis cigarettes. About then we began to discover who the talented member of 'Martin @ Lewis' really was.
