Las Vegas Passes Dumb Law by Mistake

August 18, 2006 | 11:06 am
The city of Las Vegas' obsession with stomping on the homeless has gone from the ridiculous to the sublimely ridiculous.
As noted earlier on the Buffet, the city passed a law making it a crime to feed homeless people in the park. But now the city, in its rush to persecute people who already have nothing, has made it a crime to sleep close to urine or feces that has not been properly deposited. Dog or human is unclear.
So, even if you have a home, if you plan to hang out in a city park and take a nap in the afternoon sun, to be in compliance with the law you must first establish a 500 foot caca- and peepee-free perimeter.
The Review-Journal quotes Lee Rowland of the ACLU: "Seriously, are you kidding me?" It is a real ordinance passed by this city and is serious. It was a mistake. The goal was only to ban the deposits, not sleeping near them. But in the rush to write this law the city had a boo-boo and made a mess.

Uh, do we need a law for this?

If you see poop in the park, please pick it up (carefully) and mail it to the City's attorney. He seems to be really concerned about abandoned poop.

Mail it to:
City Attorney Brad Jerbic
