Rolling Stone, The Casino?
08:54 AM PT, Feb 1 2006
It is being reported that editor and owner Jann Wenner is negotiating to license the name Rolling Stone to a casino to be located on Harmon Avenue near the Aladdin (soon to be Planet Hollywood). This, of course, would provide direct competition to the Hard Rock Hotel in terms of similar demographic appeal. I love Rolling Stone and consider it a real honor that I was given the opportunity to review discs in that publication for almost a decade. Yet, I do not think a Rolling Stone themed casino would do well in Las Vegas. The boomers who really revere the Rolling Stone name are set in their Vegas visiting patterns at this point and the Palms and Hard Rock mostly fight for the younger generations more likely to read Maxim. Still, Rolling Stone is a great brand name and that means commercial potential in Las Vegas. They should consider partnering with an established casino using the Rolling Stone name first for a nightclub or a concert venue, before leaping into the casino business.(photo from AP)

I STRONGLY DISAGREE. I THINK THAT THE ROLLING STONE HOTEL & CASINO IN VEGAS IS GOING TO THRIVE.
I'M FREQUENTLY IN VEGAS FOR CORPORATE TRAVEL AND HAVE HEARD THAT EVERYTHING IS MOVING FORWARD FOR OPENING IN 2010.
THE BRAND ITSELF - UNLIKE MAXIM AND STUFF - HAS FOR DECADES CAPTURED AND MAINTAINED ITS AUDIENCE - BOTH YOUNG AND OLD - INTERNATIONALLY.
IT IS A BRAND THAT ENCOMPASSES FREEDOM AND EXPERIENCE. I KNOW THAT BOTH MY BUDDIES AND MYSELF WILL BE BUYING THESE CONDOS IN THE PRE-CONSTRUCTION SALES.
THESE WILL DEFINITELY BE A STRONG BULLISH BUY.
