"Las Vegas Law" Party
The Movable Buffet's friend Marla Maiwand attended the premiere party for the latest Vegas reality show last night and sends us this report with photos:
"Last night, The Courthouse Bar and Grill in downtown Las Vegas hosted the premiere of Court TV's 'Las Vegas Law'. The show follows the escapades of criminal lawyer James 'Bucky' Buchanan and his beautiful wife, Gianna.
At the premiere, the rustic Courthouse Bar and Grill was filled to the gills with about 150 friends, family and media all eager to see the first episode. It was a very inviting atmosphere as I entered and saw many of the same faces that were at the Buchanan's annual Toys for Tots Christmas party. The Buchanans are so friendly and warm that it's easy to forget that they are high up on the short list of Las Vegas power couples.
The seemingly unmatched couple (she's young enough to be his daughter, the better part of a foot taller than him, and a prosecutor while Bucky is in criminal defense) were made for television. The crowded room halted to complete silence when 'Las Vegas Law' started at 10PM. The captivating show is fun and sexy and very real. That realness came through in the first episode which shows a meth addict that Bucky was defending be sentenced to jail time. Despite the defeat in court, the crowd cheered wildly at every commercial break. And what they say about every great man is definitely true in this case: Gianna is just as dynamic and colorful as Bucky is. The former ballerina went to law school at McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. She has been Deputy Attorney General for the state of Nevada since May of 2000, and expressed her excitement about the show to me. 'This show educates and entertains while giving a bird's eye view of the criminal justice system of Las Vegas.' She is as much her own woman as she is the doting wife to Bucky. Producers at the premiere were already buzzing about a second season, and I say, with the genuine star quality of Gianna and Bucky , there will be many seasons to come!"
Marla is next planning to attend the Keep Memory Alive fundraiser on Feb. 11. This exclusive event features California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and first lady Maria Shriver. Shriver along with Frank Gehry, who designed The Lou Ruvo Alzheimer Institute being unveiled this month, are to be honored. Marla says of her excitment at going: "This is going to be the highlight night of my life."
